Vacation - Staff

Sick Time - Staff
Employees with an assigned FTE of .5 or greater, with appointments of greater than six months, are eligible for sick time which is prorated per FTE. Sick time is accrued at a rate of .0461 per compensated hour (~12 days per year prorated per FTE) and may be carried over from year to year.
Parental Leave – Staff
Macalester staff members with regular full‐time employment are eligible for a paid leave of six weeks after they have been on the payroll for two years if they are the primary caregiver for a new dependent. Staff members who have been employed more than one year but less than two years will receive paid leave prorated by their number of months of service.

Short Term Emergency Leave - Faculty
In the event of a short term disability or other emergency leave of fewer than 90 days, a faculty member who has an on-going relationship with the College may continue to receive his or her salary. Arrangements for classes and other responsibilities will be made by the Provost in consultation with the department chair. The College will continue to pay health insurance premiums for eligible employees.
Parental Leave - Faculty
A full‐time faculty member who is assuming primary care of a new dependent, and who is on a multi‐year terminal contract with a minimum of two years remaining in the contract or on a tenured or tenure track contract, may choose one of the following leave options:
- Option A: Up to six weeks leave at full pay with a full teaching load for the rest of the academic year.
- Option B: One semester leave and a full load for the remainder of the academic year.
- Option C: A one course release.
