11.6 Health and Life Insurance Continuation Coverage
Title X of the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1986 (COBRA) requires that all employer-sponsored health plans offer certain employees and their dependents the opportunity to continue health insurance, life insurance, and reimbursement account coverage under the plan after their coverage would normally have ceased. Continuation of health and life insurance coverage may be further extended under Minnesota state law.
Macalester College has outsourced its COBRA continuation services to Benesyst. When you become eligible for COBRA continuation due to separation of service or for another reason, you will receive a letter of notification and instruction from Benesyst on your rights to continue coverage. You will have 60 days to elect to continue health, life and reimbursement accounts after receipt of notice.
For questions on:
- Who may continue coverage
- What the coverage period is
- Conversion information
- When continued coverage ends
- Cost of coverage
Please call Benesyst at 1-800-670-7131
