12.12 Internal Applications for Tenure Track Positions
When an academic department has an opening for a tenure track faculty position, qualified candidates already teaching at Macalester are welcome to apply. However, internal candidates who are not selected for the tenure track position, are not eligible for further employment by that department once their current contract expires.
Policy Note:
This policy has been in effect since Fall semester 2001. Beginning in Fall 2002 when there was a tenure track opening in a department where a temporary faculty member might apply for the position, the Provost communicated the policy to the chair at the beginning of the department's search. Now the Provost communicates the policy to the Chairs of all searches at the beginning of the search process. However, some persons affected by the policy have felt that they were unaware of the policy until the chair brought it to their attention. Therefore, it seems appropriate as an additional means of communication to include a written copy of the policy in the Employee handbook.
