Employment Services Sustainability Practices

As part of the overall sustainability objectives instituted by the college, Employment Services uses some of the following practices in its business processes:

  • Online Time sheets (Payroll) - Use of online time sheets has reduced paper usage significantly for the payroll processes of the college; previously, each employee (~1200) submitted a time sheet for each job they worked every pay period (26 per year)
  • Online Job Application and distribution process (Talent Acquisition) - Use of an online job application system and e-mailing the results of the search to the various hiring managers on campus has removed the need to copy and inter-office thousands of paper applications per year
  • Online Open Enrollment (Benefits) - Utilization of this method of open enrollment has removed the need to produce and mail packets with 20-30 pages each for Macalester's 400+ benefit eligible employees
  • Online Student Job Board (Student Employment) - Employment of an online, paperless application process for student workers has reduced the need to print and post the 200+ jobs available to student workers each semester
  • NEO Sustainability Presentation for New Employees (Talent Acquisition) - As part of the new employee orientation (NEO), new staff employees are introduced to the sustainability practices/policies of the college; this is done in an effort to further encourage sustainability in business practices for employees at the college
