Literary Community
The Twin Cities offer a vital and still expanding literary community, whose roots and branches connect Macalester and its English Department to other arts programs at public and private colleges, to major literary presses and journals, and to the other arts organizations for which the Twin Cities are nationally known. The presses (some of which regularly offer our students internships) include Coffee House Press and Milkweed in Minneapolis and Graywolf Press in Saint Paul. The Loft sponsors many readings and literary events, and some internships as well. Among the many literary magazines based in the Twin Cities, wešre proud to note Conduit, Cross-Cultural Poetics (also known as XCP), Elixir and the book review journal Rain Taxi. Most of these magazines sponsor public events; some take interns as well. Literary events also take place at the Walker Art Center and the University of Minnesota.
