English 340: Twentieth Century British Literature (Tobeck)
TTh 10:10-11:40

This course is organized around a broadly-interpretable theme of infidelity. Within this framework we’ll address such topics as changing conceptions of truth, subjectivity, and representation, critiques of conventional morality and the idea of the family, nationalism and language, colonial revolt, history and memory, and relationships between all these and literary innovation. Though the theme and reading list are somewhat expansive, discussion will remain centered on detailed close analyses of text.
