Fall 2006 Courses

ENGL 281-01: Crafts of Writing: Fiction (Bognanni)

W 7:00-10:00pm, Old Main 009

In this course, we will study modern fiction writing through the process of reading and writing flash fiction, short stories, and novel excerpts. We will examine each piece from a writer's perspective, discussing and critiquing these works to enhance our own writing. The goal is to become better readers of our own stuff - better self-editors. We are going to do that by reading others' work carefully and critically, and submitting our own work to be critiqued. Being in a workshop is essentially about hearing responses to your work and learning what mistakes you are making and which things you are doing right. By recognizing and commenting on the mistakes and successes of others, you will learn to look at your own work in a more critically involved way.
