English 120-01: Intro to Creative Writing (Lee)

M/W/F 10:50-11:50am, Old Main 002

This course will serve as an introduction to three genres of creative writing (poetry, playwriting, and fiction) in order to develop sensibilities in language, drama, and narrative. The class will be run largely as a workshop. We will start with the recitation of published poems, as the performance aspect of presenting creative work will be an integral part of the course. Then students will write and present their own poems, one-scene plays (performed with classmates), and short stories. Interspersed will be discussions and exercises relating to issues of craft. We will also examine guides and works by contemporary writers as models.
