Spring 2006 Courses
English 120-07:
Introduction to Creative Writing
(Moritz)
M 7-10 pm
This course will focus on the writing of poetry, short fiction, and the personal essay. We'll divide our class time between craft discussion, writing exercises, and workshop. In doing so, we'll explore questions about the writer's place in the world, the elements of genre, and the creative process behind art-making. The course will use anthologies of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, to include the work of writers Elizabeth Bishop, Yusef Komunyakaa, Jamaica Kincaid, Bharati Mukherjee, Virginia Woolf, James Baldwin, and more. Students registering for this course should be able to demonstrate that they have done some previous writing of poetry or fiction, either through previous writing classes or on their own.
