English 405: Advanced Creative Writing Workshop (Lemon)

M 7:00-10:00 pm, Old Main 003

This course focuses on the work of becoming a serious writer.  It provides an opportunity for students committed to writing fiction, poetry, or creative nonfiction at an advanced level to write more intensively and extensively by revising previously written work and creating new work within a workshop setting.  At the same time, it encourages and enables students to think more deeply about their work by broadening the contexts within which they might reflect on and understand their own preoccupations and practices as writers. Class meetings will be devoted to informed and intensive workshop discussions of work in progress, as well as class discussions of readings from texts by such authors as Aimee Bender, John D’Agata, Nick Flynn, David Mamet, David Means and others.
