English 101-01: College Writing (Dickel)

M/W/F 10:50-11:50am, HUM 113

Help wanted: Committed students interested in practicing and improving their writing. Necessary qualifications: 1.) Willingness to collaboratively design a writing course that incorporates service learning and meets the needs of all of the students in the course; 2.) desire to do (or already doing) volunteer work in the larger community; 3.) strength to explore and revise previous assumptions about writing, writing communities, and communication and the relationship between writing and citizenship; 4.) desire to work hard at writing (drafting, revising, and editing), including researching, reading, analyzing, and synthesizing a variety of reliable, and, in some cases, unreliable, sources of information; 5.) ability to participate actively and energetically in collaborative learning; and 6.) eagerness to go well beyond usual student expectations of college writing courses.
