Robert Warde grew up in Southern California, lived for a decade on the east coast, and eventually settled in the middle of the country, hoping to gain ballast. Though specializing in nineteenth-century Britain, he has also taught a variety of topics in modern and contemporary British and American literature, as well as courses in creative nonfiction and dramatic literature, particularly Shakespeare. He has published a book on Lawrence of Arabia, and is presently writing a memoir of his Los Angeles childhood. He was the first recipient of Macalester's annual "Excellence in Teaching" award, and has directed or co-directed study-away programs for the Associated Colleges of the Midwest in London, Florence, and Chicago.
