1.   Membership

General agreement that the CEIC needs more faculty/staff members - Jesse Mortenson will bring a list of official representatives to the next meeting. 

Discussion of how voting system will work - Jesse will bring a written proposal of a voting system to the next meeting.

Negotiation of meeting time:

  • Every other week
  • Tuesday 4:30
  • Next meeting:  (Last of semester) December 2
  • Subcommittees, if any, can meet December 9

2.  Issues/Actions

Purpose of CEIC discussed - Focus on items pertaining directly to CEIC for now:  Talloires Declaration, membership, etc.   CEIC should keep updated on campus issues also.

Individual/Organization Projects:

Richard Graves

  • Campus meet the Kyoto Protocol
  • "Green" fieldhouse with LEED certification (Nationally recognized standard)
  • Solar panel project/display on campus
  • When the time comes, the CEIC will draft the proposal for the fieldhouse renovation

Danny Schwartzman

  • Report on Environmental Director is finished (results of comparison schools and meeting with president)

Gretchen Solomon

  • Action Fund Grant Proposal ($500 award maximum) for creation of Education Stations around campus at MULCH garden, wind turbine, recycling center, etc.
  • Enviro House (similar to the language houses)
  • Increased use of organic food in cafeteria, possibility of Bon Appetit CEIC member-Lori Hartzel?

Janet Ebaugh

  • Promotion of Ordway Facilities on campus

Brett Smith

  • Poster display on December 12th of ENVI 133 student projects on campus environmental issues

Meeting is adjourned.  All present are expected to think of ideas for mission statement to be discussed at the next meeting.
