1.  Energy Audit Update

Next Tuesday, March 30, Dickinson has a lunch meeting with Rick Harmons of The Center on Energy and the Environment to discuss these possibilities further.

Dickinson is particularly interested in recomissioning of existing buildings on campus.

Dickinson talked to Colleen Nelson from the Weidt Group (Xcel Energy will pay for their engineers to consult with green building designers).

2.  Memo to the President

Smith presented a draft of a memo to be sent to President Rosenberg, describing mission, membership, and resources of the CEIC.

Concerns with the memo and resource document were raised by committee members. After discussion, Smith agreed to draft a revised statement reflecting comments.

Additional suggestions are to be emailed to smithb@macalester.edu.

3.  State of the Campus Report

Smith gave update of student progress in senior seminar.  More information will come as they complete their work.

4.  Other Business

Graves announced the Kyoto Forum scheduled for Thursday, March 25 from 5-7 in the Chapel.

Schwartzman suggested that the Committee might want to undertake an "action" project beyond its organizational matters, perhaps developing an inventory of environmental activities on campus similar to the civic engagement inventory done this fall. This will be discussed further at the next meeting.

Next meeting:  The next meeting is scheduled for April 6, 4-5 p.m., Campus Center.  Further discussion of resource and membership documents and strategies for moving forward on resources request.  There will also be a discussion of additional projects.

Note:  After April 6, the CEIC plans to meet every Tuesday with meetings limited to one hour.

Minutes taken by Sally Weivoda.
