Campus Wars Concludes

By Angela Whited

The Campus Wars have ended and results are trickling in to Macalester organizers.  Timothy Den Herder-Thomas '09, who had a major role in organizing the effort, said that the complete results will not be available until after spring break.

"I think the high profile nature and copious publicity [of the campaign] made it far more successful regardless of the results," Den Herder-Thomas said.  "Our message has reached the MN Daily, MPR, and a paper in Detroit, Mich. - potentially the Star [Tribune} soon, as well as probably just about all Macalester community members.  The vision of efficient, climate-conscious living is ascendant."

In addition to publicity outside of Macalester, a great deal of effort went into publicizing the event on campus.  Winton Health Services designed the "Stop! Use the Stairs" posters that first appeared on the doors of campus elevators.  Multiple departments, including the alumni and development office, facilities management, Environmental Studies and Geography, as well as many individuals contributed to the war effort, Den Herder-Thomas said.

"One of the most inspiring parts of Campus Wars is how many people are helping out unasked," Den Herder-Thomas said.
