Center of the Macalester Prairie

The center of the Macalester Prairie has a six to twelve inch layer of dry sand over moist soil. This section is the flattest and has the most surface of the different sections. Along the edges are very tall plants and the most diverse portions of the prairie.

The two dominant plants in this section are Big Bluestem and Brown Eyed Susans. In the northern portion there are several young Compass Plants, and some Cup Plants.
