1. U.S. Public Interest Research Group - Careers That Make a Difference
An email from LuCinda Hohmann: As a graduating senior you are no doubt trying to decide what you will do
next year, or even for the next 5 years. I want to let you know more about
opportunities in the public interest field. Having graduated myself just
two years ago, now I am the Midwest Organizer for a group called U.S. Public
Interest Research Group.
U.S.PIRG is a federation of state-based public interest advocacy groups.
This year we are hiring 100 graduating college students to determine where
this country is going: to solve our energy problems; to reform the campaign
finance system; to safeguard individuals from identity theft; to fight
hunger and homelessness; and make an impact on many other public interest
issues.
I invite you to not only check out our web site (www.pirg.org/jobs) but to
contact me for more information. Feel free to email me at hohmann@pirg.org or call me at 312-291-0349 x220!
Sincerely,
LuCinda Hohmann,
Midwest Organizer
U. S.PIRG.

3. Seminar at College of St. Catherine on March 27
CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE IN THE 21ST CENTURY
Tuesday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m.
College of St. Catherine
St. Paul Campus
Over a decade ago, graduate student Azadeh Tabazadeh championed the idea that human activity was destroying the ozone layer. Despite
opposition, she went on to show that chlorofluorocarbons in the
atmosphere behaved differently from particles spewed into the
atmosphere by natural phenomena such as volcanic eruptions and did reduce
the ozone layer's capacity to filter ultraviolet rays. Her work helped
pave the way for a landmark 1996 ban on CFC manufacturing.
Applying her expertise in physical chemistry to atmospheric science, she
became one of the first scientists to make the connection between ozone
depletion and global warming.
