Wetlands: Minnesota's Disappearing Treasure

Wetlands have been rapidly disappearing in Minnesota, and across North America since the settlement of pioneers in the 18th and 19th Centuries.  Wetlands have long been thought of as useless wastelands, and have been drained for development.  It is only recently that people have begun to recognize all of the services that wetlands can provide.  This website will explore what a wetland is, why they are important, what is being done to protect and restore them, in addition to exploring some endangered species that call wetlands home.  The focus of our research was on wetlands in Minnesota, especially those in and around the Minnesota River Basin.
