2009-2010 Returning Students
Financial Aid Application Instructions
(U.S. Citizens & Permanent Residents)
To apply for financial aid as a returning Macalester
student, complete the steps below. Be sure to file by May 15,
2009 to ensure timely delivery
of
results.
- All applicants must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA).
- Some applicants will be required to complete additional steps. If
a) your FAFSA is selected for verification by the US Department of Education, or b) if you have a change in family financial circumstances you would like us to know about, or c) if you will have a sibling enrolled as an undergraduate during 2009-2010; then you must also complete additional steps.

Free
Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- File the 2009-2010 FAFSA (or Renewal FAFSA) and
include Macalester’s code (002358) in the school section.
- Visit www.fafsa.ed.gov
to file the FAFSA online.
- You may sign the FAFSA electronically if you have
a PIN from the Department of Education. You may obtain a PIN at the time you complete your FAFSA.
- Parents of dependent students may also sign the
FAFSA electronically. Parent must also have a PIN (different from
the student PIN) to sign electronically. Parents may visit pin.ed.gov to request a PIN.
- If the FAFSA is signed electronically, results are
usually delivered to Macalester within 72 hours.
- Call (800) 4FED-AID to request a paper FAFSA or visit the Department of Education web site for a pdf FAFSA.
- Please do not send a paper copy of your completed
FAFSA to the Financial Aid Office. We must receive results from
the FAFSA processor.
Mail or fax the items below to the Financial Aid Office if you are selected for verification. have a change in family financial circumstances, or will have a sibling enrolled as an undergraduate during 2009-2010:
- 2009-2010 Macalester Financial Aid Application.
- Signed copies of custodial parent 2008 federal tax documents (form 1040,
1040A, or 1040EZ; electronic filing forms and summaries are not
acceptable) for custodial
parent(s).
- Custodial parent 2008 W2 form(s).
- Your signed 2008 federal tax return (1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ; complete a
non-filer statement if you will not
file a 2008
federal tax return).
Students who have never before applied for financial aid at Macalester
must also complete the College
Scholarship Service PROFILE and, if applicable, a noncustodial parent PROFILE.
Responses to financial aid applications will be mailed
to your home address. We will begin mailing aid awards to
returning students in June, 2007.
