The Macalester College Law Warschaw Gallery would like to announce the upcoming exhibition of Melanie VanHouten’s new work Agrarian Descent.
In the past year Melanie VanHouten left Minnesota and returned home to Frankfort, Kentucky in order to open the Josephine Sculpture Park and concentrate on her sculpture practice. In Agrarian Descent, VanHouten will create an installation exploring the process of returning home and reclaiming her family farm from years of neglect and poor land use practices. She has been documenting this process by cataloging objects and these objects will serve as the basis for the exhibition. She describes this process of consideration by saying “Insofar as I can see, there is a direct link between my taking responsibility for these objects and our collective responsibility toward the health of our planet.”
