The Minnesota State Finals of the National Geographic Bee will
move from Macalester to St. Cloud St University

After a run of over 20 years, the Geography Department of Macalester College will no longer host the State Finals of the National Geographic Bee.  In the future, this popular event will be hosted by the Geography Department of St. Cloud State University.  All of the members of the Geography Department wish to publicly thank the entire Macalester community for

its support of this event.  Special thanks go to Facilities Services and Campus Programs who so enthusiastically embraced this event. We could not have hosted the competition without all they did to facilitate the event. In addition, we are especially indebted to Barbara Laskin, Macalester's Media Relations Manager, who consistently secured tremendous media coverage for this event year after year.  Also, we would be remiss if we did not thank Dave Reynolds of Media Services who was responsible for skillfully making all the audio-visual systems work.  Finally, we are grateful for the support of the Music Department for allowing the Final Round of the Bee to be held in the Concert Hall and all the other campus locations where Bee rounds were held.

The new home of the Bee, St. Cloud State University, graduates more social studies teachers than any other institution in Minnesota. In addition, its large Geography Department is enthusiastically embracing the Bee and the new connections to Minnesota public schools that come with the Bee. The conference facilities at St. Cloud are excellent and we know the Minnesota Finals will continue to be a success in its new venue.

Thank you Macalester!
