Syllabus

This course surveys the geography of the island-based region of Oceania, which includes Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific Islands. The course will focus on detailed study and discussion of issues that affect, or are of particular relevance to, the region. The themes include but are not limited to: island biogeography, indigenous rights and colonial rule, migration, economic development, and human-environment interactions. Particular country case studies will be offered to exemplify the broader issues that are covered. No prerequisite. Fall Semester. (4 Credits)
