The Minnesota Alliance for Geographic Education (MAGE) is guided by a Steering Committee which is comprised of a group of teachers, college professors, and administrators supporting fellow teachers who are striving to be the best that they can be.

MAGE believes that the study of geography is an important part of the intellectual maturation of students and that the materials available to all students must be of the highest possible quality.

The Minnesota Alliance for Geographic Education (MAGE) was founded in 1987. It is affiliated with and financially supported by the National Geographic Society (NGS) Educational Foundation and is currently located at Macalester College in the Geography Department, St. Paul, Minnesota.

GOALS

In order to support Minnesota teachers, we have organized our activities under five general goals:

     1) To enhance the geographic understanding of teachers at all levels of preparation;

     2) To strengthen the place of geography in the state's curriculum and enhance the discipline's reputation within Minnesota's educational communities;

     3) To prepare new materials that accurately reflect the conceptual core of geography and the nature of our world;

     4) To enhance the community's appreciation of geography and geographic educators; and

     5) To provide opportunities for geography teachers and students to share what they have learned.
