Master Teachers
Craig Hattam ( Lincoln Middle School , Hibbing ) Craig is a geography teacher who has made numerous geography education presentations at local, state, and national levels. Craig also serves on the Board of the Minnesota Council for the Social Studies (MCSS).
Fred Kunze After many years as a social studies teacher, Fred went on to be the technology trainer in his district. Since retirement, he continues to conduct education technology throughout Minnesota through his classroom technology integration training business.
Michelle Leba ( Washington Technology Magnet School , St. Paul ) Michelle is a middle school eography teacher and a member of the MAGE Steering Committee. She is the 2005-06 Minnesota State Coordinator for the NGS Geography ACTION! program.
Mary Mohr-Scinocca ( Westwood Middle School , Spring Lake Park ) Mary is a fifteen-year veteran teacher of English-Social Studies interdisciplinary teaching. She has made several presentations in the state about literacy in the social studies.
Kelly Swanson ( Johnson High School , St. Paul ) Kelly teaches one of the first AP Geography courses offered in Minnesota . His course syllabus was published in the ETS AP Geography Teachers’ Guide. Recently, Kelly was on staff at the Minnesota Institute for Talented Youth.
Paula Verstegen ( Lake Elmo Elementary School ) Paula is a thirty-year veteran teacher who has madenumerous geography education presentations around the state and currently serves as the National Geographic Society’s Materials Demonstrator for Minnesota . Paula was also a 2003 finalist for “Teacher of the Year” in Minnesota .
