The Dakota Conflict of 1862
One of the most significant events in Minnesota history – the
conflict that changed the places where we Minnesotans call home.
Where did it happen?
Who were the players?
What was the cause?
And significantly, what has been the aftermath of the event?
Approximately two dozen educators explored the geography of southwestern Minnesota and the sites of the Dakota Conflict. The workshop helped to enhance their understanding of this historic event and provided participants with a multitude of new ideas and materials (MAPS!) for teaching. This field experience also provided an opportunity for educators to get together with other teachers and allow them to discuss how to teach this historic event through the eyes of geographers.
