Brainerd Lakes Region

Greater Brainerd Outlook

  • Greater Brainerd will continue on its current spatial growth trends oriented towards the 371 Bypass.  Though the 371/210 intersection has been heavily developed, the 371/Business 371 interchange has been neglected.  This will likely draw retail functions as the 371 corridor is further enhanced and developed.

  • Downtown will continue to grow as a center for specialty shopping and  entertainment.  Downtown Brainerd has historically been a center for hospitality in the region, and although many of the historic hotels have burned, it still retains its knack for restaurants and bars.

  • Additionally the lure of a historic downtown, with small retail spaces within walking distance of each other, has drawn a number of mid tier specialty stores such as antique stores.

  • The Cuyuna Lakes Trail will add vitality and ensure a link to development in the Cuyuna Range.
