Brainerd Lakes Region

Nisswa Area Outlook

The Nisswa area will see further development of its loosely agglomerated resort landscape.  Nisswa has succeeded in diversifying its resort landscape.  This diversification not only benefits the owners of these enterprises, but also the owners of existing or potential resort and cabin development
The Paul Bunyan Trail will continue to be a major feature of the landscapes of the old rail resort towns and will factor into decisions in developing and promoting these areas.  Snowmobile trails in general will generate economic activity in the trail area.  Community parks are typically located around the intersection of the Paul Bunyan Trail and the town's historic rail stations.

.
Non-traditional firms will continue to relocate in the area, given the current trends in subsidies for such enterprises.  Major investments in transportation (371 and the Brainerd Airport) and communication (fiber optic), will continue to make this high amenity place attractive to firms that value labor retention and recruitment more than the diminishing costs of connecting to the urban system
