Site
"The precise location of a geographic feature; often distinguished from its spatial relationship to other features (or situation) (Academic Press Dictionary of Science and Technology)."
Dynamic examples of site in the Brainerd Lakes Area include:
- The soils and climate of the region produced abundant forests. These forests were the habitat for beavers and other small animals which were harvested in the fur trade, and so attracted a population to the area to serve that industry and its occupants. The rich forests of Norway and White pine brought the wood processing industry to the area.
- The iron ore of the Cuyuna Range was mined to produce steel. Mining and supporting industries came to the area.
- The lakes created by glacial processes make an ideal recreational environment. Tourists and supporting industries have located in the area.
