Hinckley is still on busy rail lines operated by today’s giant railroads. Seen here, a modern Union Pacific freight train running through Hinckley on March 31, 2005. The former Great Northern line is owned by Fort Worth, Texas-based BNSF and Omaha, Nebraska-based Union Pacific serves it by trackage rights. Shortline Saint Croix Valley also serves Hinckley. Though railroads are no longer Hinckley’s main connection to the outside world, they continue to leave a significant impact on the landscape.
