Highway Development
Post World War I, highway development swept the nation like a new "boy-band" takes over the pages of pre-teen magazines. The Federal Highway Act of 1921 provided funding for states to construct paved two-lane interstates, soon to break railroad’s monopoly over industry and transportation. |

Although the details are illegible, this highway condition map (1927) below shows a maturing network of State Highways. All of the main highways near the Twin Cities had been paved in asphalt by this time and main roads leading to the outstate were at least covered by a surface more advanced than dirt. |
