Overview - Key Highway Improvements
Road improvements typically are both indicative of the current volume of residential, economic, and commuter activity in an area and, in the suburbs, foreshadow future growth and development.
The photograph below of Highway 10 at the Highway 65 exit ramp in Blaine (March 2005) illustrates this phenomenon. This section of Highway 10 was upgraded in 1999 and now serves as the "main gateway for traffic roaring into and out of fast-growing Anoka County." (St. Paul Pioneer Press, April 5 2005) The sound walls hide the 50s and 60s residential neighborhoods lining the highway. Place mouse over the photo to see the same intersection in 1949 prior to residential settlement and improvements made over the advanced auto era.
