Madagascar

I’ve worked in the Upper Cretaceous Maevarano Formation of northeastern Madagascar since 1998, as a part of the Mahajanga Basin Project. My research is focused on the taxonomy, anatomy, phylogeny, and paleobiology of at two titanosaurs recovered from the basin. Rapetosaurus krausei is among the best-preserved titanosaurs ever found, and has yielded important data on titanosaur anatomy. The second taxon is more enigmatic but preliminary work indicates that it shares interesting relationships to South American Cretaceous sauropods.

I am also conducting research on the Ankazomihaboka sandstones – an older sedimentary unit in the Mahajanga Basin that preserves a distinctive vertebrate fauna including dinosaurs and their contemporaries.
