Since Germany is the world’s fourth-largest economy and the leading export economy, German is a key language for international commerce and finance. Macalester’s German Studies curriculum includes courses that focus on acquiring proficiency in German (The Language Sequence); advanced courses taught in German on German culture, literature, and history from the 18th century to the present (Literature and Culture); and courses taught in English suitable for students from across the curriculum as well as German majors and minors (Courses in English: Cinema and Critical Theory).
