German House

The German House is your opportunity to simulate life in a German-speaking country. Located a half-block from campus (190 Vernon), the House is staffed with two resident directors, generally young teachers from Austria or Germany. The resident directors also serve as Teaching Assistants (Native Speakers) in the department, and help the eight students living in the House enhance their language proficiency. Students and directors share responsibilities for cooking and housekeeping. The German House hosts a Kaffeestunde once a month for the German-speaking community on campus, and is the center of the German Study's Program's social activities (Nikolausfest, Faschingsfest, etc.) and an occasional lecture or informal guest visit. In addition to the chance to maintain their German in an everyday setting, students enjoy the atmosphere of the house and the frequent communal meals. Prerequisites: sophomore status and at least one year of college-level German. Applications are available in the German Studies office. The 2008-2009 resident directors are Marcus Heim and Benjamin Stoltenburg from Münster, Germany.
