Rachael
Huener (B.A. St. Olaf College, M.A. Northwestern University, Ph.D.
University of Minnesota) teaches a wide range of German Studies
courses, in particular cultural history, 19th and 20th century
German literature, and early film. She is active in the field
of German Studies curriculum and pedagogy and enjoys the opportunities
in the Macalester German Studies department for interdisciplinary
work. Her research interests focus on pre-World War I commercial
advertising stamps, in which she explores the relatively unknown
medium of the Reklamemarke and analyses its social as well
as commercial mediations. Her interest in visual cultural and
specifically commercial art have strongly motivated her implementation
of computer-based multimedia in her German Studies courses.
Her
current activities include chairing the 2003 Minnesota AATG high
school German contest testing committee.
