The office is closed for two weeks during winter break and all
of summer break, with reduced services during fall and spring breaks.
The Health & Wellness Center is located
in the Leonard Center. Handicapped parking is availableat the south building entrance. Other parking is available on Snelling Avenue or a side street
Primary care services are provided for registered students
by a nurse practitioner and registered nurse. A physician is available
on campus one day a week for appointments. For a complete description

Students can schedule individual appointments with the Macalester
counseling staff. A psychiatrist is also available on a limited basis
for appointments by referral from the Macalester counseling staff.

A certified health educator leads the health promotion initiatives
for the campus, assisted by student health promotion assistants.

Therapeutic one-hour massage
appointments are available in the Macalester Health & Wellness Center. Students can
sign up for one massage per semester at a substantially subsidized cost.

The Health & Wellness Cneteroversees the health insurance
enrollment for the Chickering policy red by Macalester. All Macalester
students are required to have health insurance - either their own or the
Macalester policy (Chickering).
Students can access a wide variety of brochures and materials
on health issues. Free condoms (male & female) are available
in the Health & Wellness Cneter waiting room. Over the counter medication (ibuprofen,
cough drops, etc.) are dispensed as appropriate.
Students are not charged for any medical or counseling appointments.
Charges are made for lab work, immunizations, prescription medicines,
some supplies; students are informed of any charges at the
time they are incurred. Charges will be billed directly to the student's
Macalester account. Macalester does not submit claims for individual
insurance plans but will provide billing documentation for students
to submit to their insurer upon written request.
The State of Minnesota and Macalester College require specific
immunizations for students registering at the college. See the list
of specific immunizations required for enrollment on the immunization
page. Students are charged for any immunizations given by the Macalester Health & Wellness Center. |
