Casa Hispana hosted Día de los Muertos festivities and activities in October. A speaker from El Centro presented historical and cultural information to attendees, and an ofrenda was constructed to honor friends and loved ones who have passed.
Día de los Muertos is a holiday that originated in Mexico and is celebrated by people of Mexican heritage mainly in North America, though similar traditions exist in other parts of the world. The holiday provides an opportunity for friends and family to gather, and pray for and remember loved ones who have died. Casa Hispana marked this year’s Día with festivities that included traditional sugar skull decorating, cut paper, paper flowers, cocoa, pan de muerto, and an ofrenda, or private altar.
