HONORS PROGRAM
For Honors in Humanities and Media and Cultural Studies a student shall have a minimum GPA of 3.4 or higher both in courses counted toward the major and overall and be making normal progress toward completion of the major.
In applying for acceptance into the program, each student shall present an Honors adviser a statement of intent and a brief description of the proposed Honors project. These materials shall be due no later than spring registration in the year prior to the fall in which the student plans to begin the Honors project or, for students graduating in December, than the fall registration in the year prior to the spring in which the student plans to begin the Honors project. This deadline may be adjusted for students returning from study abroad and planning to graduate in May. The adviser in consultation with the department chair will review the project and notify the student of acceptance or denial. In all cases, May graduates must submit their final application to the department chair by the Sept. 15 prior to graduation and for December graduates by the Jan. 15 prior to graduation.
A list of seniors preliminarily approved by the department to pursue an Honors project shall be presented by the department chair to the Dean of Academic Programs by October 1 for students planning to graduate in May and by January 26 for students planning to graduate in December. The Honors thesis will differ from the capstone experience in displaying original research in depth. The project normally takes a full academic year and should be at least fifty pages.
