After graduation, many students attend medical school in their state of residence while others are accepted into private medical schools. Each year, students also begin studying for advanced degrees in other health professions or spend a year or two working in a related field before applying for advanced degrees.

Katie Cicolello ’14 (Rockford, Ill.), Lauren MacNeill ’14 (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Mark Skopec ’14 (Vienna, Austria), all biology majors, are critical care research interns at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn., where they will be doing research in the emergency department and the surgical and burn units.

Max Soghikian ’14 (Piedmont, Calif.), a double major in biology and chemistry, is in his first year of medical school at Northwestern University.

Linnea Swanson ’14 (St. Paul, Minn.), a biology major with a concentration in community and global health, is in her first year of medical school at the University of Minnesota.

Amy Tran ’14 (Burnsville, Minn.), a biology major, is in her first year of the doctor of pharmacy program at the University of Minnesota.

Erika Weimann ’14 (Bemidji, Minn.), a biology major, is a medical scribe at Twin Cities Orthopedics and plans to apply to physical therapy programs.

Kidist Zewdie ’14 (Stone Mountain, Ga.), a biology major with emphasis in biochemistry, has been accepted to the master’s in public health program at the University of Minnesota.

Leah Freilich ’13 (Philadelphia, Pa.), a biology major, is in her first year at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University.

Selamawit Gebremariam ’13 (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia), a biology major, received a Davis Peace Prize in 2012 to build a well for a women’s health clinic in Ethiopia. She is now in her second year of graduate study at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health in maternal and child health.

Abass Noor ’13 (New Hope, Minn.), a biology major with a community and global health concentration, is in his second year of medical school at Brown University.

Nathan Scheiner ’13 (Vadnais Heights, Minn.), a biology and philosophy double major, is in his second year at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He is also pursuing his MA in bioethics at the Center for Bioethics through the University of Minnesota’s combined degree program.

Nicholas Skenderian ’13 (Claremont, Calif.), a biology major, is in his first year of the master’s of science in global health program at the University of Copenhagen. Jessica Vaughan ’13 (Madison, Wis.), an anthropology major, is in her second year of a combined BSN-MSN Public Health/ Midwifery Program at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in Baltimore, Md.

Haley Yerxa ’13 (Carouge, Switzerland), a biology major, was trained as an EMT through Macalester First Aid and used those skills as a backcountry ranger intern in Yosemite National Park. In this position she was primary responder on the park’s medical calls and also dealt with search and rescue missions. She is currently working with FEMA in Baltimore, Md., where she is assisting with disaster-relief efforts.

Hannah Irvine ’12 (White Bear Lake, Minn.), a biology major, is clinical research coordinator in the Massachusetts General Hospital in the Division of Neurocritical Care and Emergency Neurology.

Jonathan Komisar ’12 (New York, N.Y.), an English literature major, is at Mount Sinai Medical School in New York. 

Katrina Krogh ’12 (North Oaks, Minn.), a biology major, is in medical school at New York Medical College.

Ethan Forsgren ’11 (Ames, Iowa), a biology major, is in Caracas, Venezuela, organizing community emergency response courses. 

Marissa Leow ’11 (Singapore), a biology major, spent a year as an emergency room scribe in Minnesota. She is now in her first year of medical school through the Duke University Medical School and the National University of Singapore collaborative program.

Grace Cunningham ’10 (St. Paul, Minn.), a biology major, worked as a research intern at American Medical Systems, a medical device company that specializes in pelvic health.  She is now in her first year of medical school at the University of Minnesota.

Michael Richter ’10 (Seattle, Wash.), a physics major, is in his first year at Mount Sinai Medical School. 

Sandolsam Cha ’10 (Cavite, Philippines), a biology major with a concentration in community and global health, is in his second year at Dartmouth Medical School.

Katherine Erickson-Pearson ’10 (Centennial, Colo.), a biology major, worked as an Emergency Department scribe at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn., and is now in her first year of medical school at the University of Minnesota.

Xu Han ’10 (Maryland Heights, Mo.), a chemistry major with a biochemistry emphasis, is in his second year at the University of Minnesota Dental School.

Alyssa Leone ’10 (Burlington, Iowa), a biology major, is in a physical therapy doctoral program at Washington University.

Ryan Peters ’10 (Kohler, Wis.), a biology major, is in his second year of dental school at the University of Pennsylvania.

Zachary Schwager ’10 (East Greenwich, R.I.), a biology major, is in his second year at Brown University Medical School.

Nate Wegmann ’10 (St. Paul, Minn.), a biology major, is working with Roche Diagnostics in their Global Medical Affairs unit.

Sarah Fieber ’09 (Tucson, Ariz.), a biology major, is in her first year of medical school at the University of Vermont after spending time post-graduation serving as a physician’s scribe.

Michael Waul ’08 (St. Catherine, Jamaica), a chemistry major and Rhodes scholar, completed his doctorate in organic chemistry at Oxford. He is now in his first year at Harvard Medical School.
