There are many opportunities for students to pursue their interest in the health professions while on study away programs.  Macalester’s International Center provides a comprehensive list of study away opportunities and a guide to getting to where you want to go. A few of these study away experiences of interest to health professions students have included the following:

• Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS) — Medical Practice and Policy
• Costa Rica through the Associated Colleges of the Midwest — This is a field research program, however, many students have arranged to work in local clinics. This program also provides an opportunity to hone your Spanish speaking skills.
• SIT Chile — Public Health, Traditional Medicine and Community Empowerment
• SIT South Africa — Community Health and Social Policy
