PRINTING

Printing at Macalester is still free! Some places on campus have no restrictions on printing; not so in the HRC.

If a document is not printing, first check the printer app in the dock. Sometimes it is "stopped" and all you have to do is click the "Resume Printing" button. Other times some document won't print and it has jammed the queue for all printing from that machine. Delete all the print jobs and have the user reprint.

When a printer’s paper tray is empty, please put a whole ream of paper in the tray. The front edges of the paper must be underneath the metal corners otherwise the printer tries to take more than one sheet and jams. The supply of paper is located in the cupboard below and to the right of the printer. When the stock get below five reams, let Alison know so she can order more.

Then the "low Toner" warning appears, this means the printer may only be able to print few hundred more pages before the toner is empty. When white streaks appear on a printed page, remove the cartridge, rock it back and forth, shake it moderately, and replace it in the printer. Prints should be normal. When this no longer works, it is time to replace the toner cartridge. Replacement carrtidges are located un the cupboard under the printer.

Sometimes the printer sits and the data light blinks for a very long time. From somewhere, someone is trying to print something huge. The fix for this is to turn off the printer and disconnect the black network cable. Wait 5 minutes. Then turn the printer on and when it says READY, reconnect the network cable. If people have been trying to print during this time, they (or you) will have to cancel their jobs and reprint.
