Employee Handbook
SOFTWARE
There are four catagories of public
computers in the HRC in terms of the software on the machine:
scanning (2), video editing machines (3), music composition
(4), and all the rest (17).
The majority of the computers in
the HRC have the standard suite of applications. These include
Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Firefox, Adobe reader, iTunes, and
Quicktime. There are also specialized language apps such as
Gramma (Greek) and Sans faute/Grammaire (French).
The two scanning machines have the Adobe suite, including Photoshop
for editing images, Acrobat Pro for making pdf documents, OmniPage
Pro for conveting scanned text to editable text (ocr) and some
helper applications.
The four machines in carrels 5 -
8 have the standard programs plus the music composition application
Finale and sometimes other music software. Note: Finale is
a large complicated program. For the most part, you will not be expected to be
able to help Finale users with their problems (unless you want
to learn the software yourself).
Finally, the three computers in the
video editing rooms have iMovie, iDVD, iTunes, and Audacity
for editing and burning multimedia. They do not have the standard
suite. At times during the semester
there are numerous people needing these rooms and we want people
to only use these rooms for digital editing.
