The Macalester
College Humanities Resource Center is open to all
students, faculty and staff. In addition to its 26 Macintosh
computers, the facility has equipment for virtually all audio
and video formats. Four stations with piano keyboards are
set up for music composition. The lounge provides an area
for comfortable study, small group work, or reading.
Three
public
digitizing areas are available to the entire Macalester campus
on a walk-in basis. The equipment in this facility will allow
the user to digitize and edit audio and video from several
sources, scan printed images and 35mm slides, and perform OCR
operations on scanned text (see Facilities).
Free color printing is available.
HRC Assistants provide support to students, faculty, and staff for equipment located within the HRC. This includes helping patrons with the Mac computers, scanners, midi keyboards, and digital editing equipment. They help faculty prepare materials for classes and assist with immediate problems using classroom technology in the Humanities building.
The
HRC provides SCOLA, a 24-hour international news service, to
the campus cable network. It is available across campus on
channel 14.
