Software
There are four catagories of public
computers in the HRC in terms of the software on the machine:
scanning (2), video editing machines (3), music composition
(4), and all the rest (17).
The majority of the computers in
the HRC have the standard suite of applications. These include
Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Firefox, Adobe reader, iTunes, and
Quicktime. There are also specialized language apps such as
Gramma4_OS X.
The two scanning machines have the Adobe suite, including Photoshop
for editing images, Acrobat Pro for making pdf documents, OmniPage
Pro for converting scanned text to editable text (ocr) and some
helper applications.
The three machines in Gluttony, the midi-keyboard suite, have various music software plus the music composition application
Finale. They do not have the standard
suite. Note: Finale is
a large complicated program. For the most part, you will not be expected to be
able to help Finale users with their problems (unless you want
to learn the software yourself).
Finally, the computers in the
video editing suites have iMovie HD, iDVD, QuickTime Pro, HandBrake and MacTheRipper
for editing and burning multimedia. At times during the semester
there are numerous people needing these rooms and we want people
to only use these rooms for digital editing.
