Established in 2005, the Institute for Global Citizenship is a campus-wide initiative to build on and expand the college’s already distinctive tradition of engagement and academic excellence. The IGC promotes learning, scholarship, and service focused on civic engagement and global leadership locally, nationally, and internationally.

Selected IGC core programs

  • International Roundtable annually brings to campus international scholars to speak on topics of worldwide significance, with formal responses from students and faculty members.
  • Civic Forum each year features student and faculty scholarship on issues in civic life in the United States.
  • Students in the “Globalization in Comparative Perspective” program study abroad during fall term and come together at the University of Maastricht in the spring.
  • A new Concentration in Global Citizenship enables students to integrate effective citizen-leader skills with their individual academic and career goals.
  • Through a biennial Faculty Development International Seminar, groups of faculty members study and do research relating to their own specializations in a selected setting. The most recent site was Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
