Education and Training

The Library and Information Technology Services (Campus Computing) have teamed up to offer a variety of classes and training opportunities on various software packages and research resources. These classes are completely free and are open to all Macalester faculty, staff, and students.

The library and ITS offer training on the following:

      -Microsoft Excel
      -Microsoft Powerpoint
      -Moodle
      -Navigating the Macalester Network
      -Nvu Web Page Editor
      -OCS Web Email
      -Refworks: Collecting and Managing References for Papers
      -Safe Computing (virus protection, system updates, backup, etc)

"DROP IN" HELP SESSIONS:
Want an introduction to any of the resources listed above? Or maybe you have a specific issue that you need help with? Then "drop in" to any of our scheduled help sessions! Two times each month, the Library and ITS staff will be available in the Library BI Room. Macalester community members are invited to "drop in" during these times for assistance on any of the topics listed above.

Drop in sessions are on selected Tuesdays and Wednesday from 3:30pm-5:00pm through Spring Semester: Feb 8th; Feb 21st; Mar 8th; Mar 21st; Apr 5th; Apr18th   [ CALENDAR ]



1-ON-1 APPOINTMENT:
If the planned Drop-In sessions do not meet your needs, you can SIGN UP for a one-on-one appointment to receive training or to help with specific issues that you may be having with any of the resources listed above.



SCHEDULED CLASSES:
Fewer scheduled classes are being scheduled this semester due to lower attendance over the past few semesters.

Spring Break Seminars- We will be hosting a series of spring break seminars on March 14th-16th on a wide range of topics including web page creation and design, webmail and library research topics. Check the Spring Break Seminars web page for more information on these sessions (info available mid-February). Other Scheduled Classes- A limited number of scheduled classes on Dreamweaver, Captivate and Photoshop will be held this semester. Check the list scheduled classes calendar for information on these sessions.

Group tailored sessions can also be scheduled for departments, classes or any group of 5 or more people.

		CREATE A CUSTOMIZED CLASS? Would you like to customize a training session to meet the needs of your class or department? We can help. We can set up a time or customize a class to meet your needs. A minimum of five people are needed to make these arrangements. Contact us for more information.
		SELF-PACED ONLINE TRAINING We are trying out a new training tool this year called ElementK. However, only a limited number of user licenses are available for the campus, so we are limiting this resource to a limited audience. Contact us if you are interested in the wide range of online training materials available through ElementK and we will work with you to determine if you are a good candidate for this resource.  [ MORE INFO ]
