GOODBYE MENUS, HELLO RIBBON
- A MICROSOFT OFFICE 2007 PREVIEW
Session Facilitator:
Bonnie Alexander
Location: Humanities 302
As the Dylan song says "times they are a changing"
- and so is Microsoft Office. In fact, Microsoft's recent
release of Office 2007 is the first major re-write of
this application in years and it includes many significant
changes. Most notably is the entirely new user interface
called the Ribbon - which replaces the menus and toolbars
that have been the foundation of Office since its creation.
This session will give you a chance to sit down at a
computer, kick the tires, 'drive' Office 2007 around
the block a couple of times and see what you think of
the many new resources and tools available (before they
show up on your office computer). If you are a frequent
user of Office applications such as Word, Excel or Powerpoint
- you'll want to stop in for this session and see why
many reviewers are praising the new MS Office 2007 (while
others are criticizing it). Take Office 2007 for a test
drive and see what you think!
10:30am-11:30am
MOODLE FOR STAFF
Session Facilitators: Michael Nelson
and Beth Hillemann
Location: Humanities 302
So what's a Moodle? Yes, Moodle is the course management
system used on campus to support collaborative online
interaction between faculty and students - but increasingly
it is also being used by faculty and staff to help facilitate
committee and campus organization work and is even used
by some departments to help manage their student employees.
This session will introduce you to many of the features
available within Moodle and will highlight some of the
ways that departments around campus are using Moodle
to make their work easier!
1:00pm-2:30pm
COOL WEB TOOLS:
AN INTRODUCTION TO WEB 2.0 RESOURCES
Session Facilitators: Ellen Holt-Werle,
Dave Collins, Jean Beccone, Beth Hillemann, Ron Joslin
Location: Library BI Room
You've probably heard of them - Flickr, Myspace, Facebook,
del.icio.us, Youtube - but do you really know what they're
all about? And what exactly is an RSS feed? And then
there's wikis, blogs and podcasts? This session will
clear up some of the confusion that you may have about
many of the collaborative and social networking tools
and resources which make up what is commonly referred
to as Web 2.0. You'll get a quick introduction to many
of these resources and be shown how you can take advantage
of them.
2:30pm-3:30pm
1600grand - IT'S NOT JUST OUR STREET ADDRESS
ANYMORE: AN INTRODUCTION TO THE NEW CAMPUS PORTAL
Session Facilitators: Leslie Mollner,
Julie McEathron-Lohmann, Kathy Johnson
Location: Library BI Room
Every day we see the new construction happening on
the south end of campus - but that's not the only construction
underway at 1600 Grand! The new campus portal - called
"1600grand" - is currently being 'built' on
the web and will be available starting in April. 1600grand
will become the new web destination of choice for many
campus community members wanting to access a variety
of resources and services. The campus portal is tied
to the campus administrative system - and eventually
many things that faculty/staff do now on paper could
possibly be moved into the portal. In this session,
you'll get a look at the current portal design and the
features and services that will be available in April.
You will also be able to talk to the staff who are helping
to implement this exciting new campus web resource.
Stop in for this session to see what's being 'built'
at 1600grand - on the web!
