Last Semester

In Fall 2013, 142 students participated in a semester-long off-campus program of study. This total marks a slight increase from students that studied off-campus during Fall 2012 (126). Students visited 46 countries, 38 program providers or universities, and enrolled in 86 different program themes with 41% of students participating in Macalester-recommended programs.

Trends in Fall 2013 included:

  • Participation in European programs increased, representing over half (52%) of student enrollment.
  • Increased enrollment in programs in Jordan; this aligns with the fact that students were not allowed to study in Egypt due to travel warning and political instability.
  • Significant decrease in students attending programs in India (1); Spring 2013 (7) and Fall 2012 (8).
  • Political Science and International Studies majors maintain high enrollment numbers.
  • Large increase in the number of Media and Cultural Studies students participating (9) since 2012-13 with 3 MCS majors per term.
