Scholarship Information
The International Center encourages all students who are in the process of planning their Study Abroad to apply for a variety of scholarships. Many of these scholarships are offered either through the specific study abroad organization (such as SIT, CIEE, IES etc.) or through other national orgnizations. Students should check with their Study Abroad Program Provider to find out more about Scholarship opportunities.
- American Councils for International Education
ACTR/ACCELS Advanced Russian Language - full and partial fellowships for students studying intensive Russian Language, or intensive study in Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus. - Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan
The Association of Teachers of Japanese Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan. ATJ awards 100 scholarships annually to assist students with the travel and living expenses they will incur while studying abroad in Japan for a semester or an academic year. - Critical Language Scholarship
The Critical Language Scholarship provides financial support for intensive summer study of critical languages including Arabic, Chinese, Hindi and several others. Check on-line for more information at: http://www.clscholarship.org/home.php.
- Freeman Awards for Study Abroad in Asia
The Freeman Award is designed to provide financial support to students with demonstrated financial need who plan to study in East or Southeast Asia. Awards are up to $5,000 for a semester and $7,000 for an academic year. Application deadline for Spring 2009 study abroad is October 15, 2008. - Gilman Scholarships for Study Abroad
The Gilman Scholarship is designed to help students with high financial need (must be a Federal Pell Grant recipient) study abroad by providing financial support, especially to those planning to study abroad in non-traditional locations and those from groups traditionally underrepresented in study abroad. The National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Scholarships offer a unique opportunity for U.S. undergraduates to study abroad. NSEP awards scholarships to American students for study of world regions critical to U.S. interests (including Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin American & the Caribbean, and the Middle East). The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded. Recipients of the Boren Scholarship must commit to working in the federal government in positions with national security responsibilites.
