Faculty >Dana Schumacher-Schmidt
Dana Schumacher-Schmidt is a native Floridian and attended Stetson University in Deland, Florida where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies in 2006. Her interest in all aspects of early modern culture brought her to the University of Minnesota, where she is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of English. Her dissertation focuses on literature from the English Civil Wars and Restoration and is concerned with writers who foreground the familiar, familial space of the household in their written recollections of this period. Building from the idea that remembering and forgetting are political, historically specific processes, she explores how domestic relationships and practices provided both the impetus and material for memory work in the late seventeenth century. Additional research and teaching interests include Shakespeare, cookbooks and household guides, gender studies, and social history.
